Yamatai Records return, presenting their final release of the year with a debut EP from Vortex, ending the year in tip-top shape in respect to their imprint's core essence, known for providing a platform for new-gen talent. The ‘Seropia’ EP lands on the circuit this Friday, December 1st.

Austrian music producer Vortex surges through with his debut EP, exhibiting his production of contemporary Drum and Bass. Three tracks encompassing a range of styles from liquid to future-tech to a wonky-roller with his own well-crafted curveballs. Marking a promising beginning for the newcomer as he’s developed his sound over the years, previously releasing on labels like Empathy Audio, Illume, and Stellar Audio. We’re looking forward to hearing more future sonics from him!

What a fantastic year for Yamatai Records, if you don’t know already, they’ve been nominated for several awards this year in the Drum&BassArena Awards. They are absolutely thriving right now and it’s only the beginning for them, all gas no brakes! Nominations for best newcomer label of the year, best album of the year with ‘The Foundations of Yamatai Vol. 1’, best remix of the year with Waeys remix of ‘Disgust’ by XAETIS and Kalane, AND best artwork of the year with Gaijin’s brilliant artwork for Chamba’s EP ‘Blessings In Disguise’. Four nominations?! C’mon now, big up and congratulations to the entire Yamatai crew and Mr. Yamatai aka James Williams. Keep a lookout for our special interview with James coming very soon…

Today, we’re pleased to showcase the title track of Vortex’s EP, “Seropia”, dialing in the self-destruct sequence of alien-like radioactive frequencies. Activating a turbulent synthy-bassline that progresses faster with its techy percussion over the course of the terrestrial plain. The higher being in the track, possibly the ‘Serop’ referring to angel, is definitely trying to tell us something!

Mission Statement

This project is crafted to be open and collaborative. Through this, we seek to explore core themes within a structured framework:

  • Symbiosis: Can artists and communities have better relations?
  • Meaning: What matters in pursuing and preserving artistic influences?
  • Intersectivity: Are there chartable commonalities within art and technology?

By asking questions, we hope to observe something new; and with that, offer our own perspective.
