Premiere: Subplate Recordings Dish Out New MURMURA

PremieresWritten by Colin Benson on

Germany’s underground electronic music scene has been thriving for a while, with local collectives across the country pushing the boundaries of the genre. Among them, Subplate Recordings has established itself as a driving force behind forward-thinking Drum & Bass, Techstep, Neurofunk, Dubstep, Halftime, and beyond. Grounded in the raw, gritty energy of Germany’s electronic undercurrent, the label continues to carve out its unique sound with an array of international talent. Their latest release is another testament to their ever-evolving sonic identity.

The France-based duo MURMURA debuts with their Nevrolution EP, a futuristic journey into industrial chaos. First introduced on the label through the Spectrum LP Vol. 2 compilation with their distinctive take on Halftime, MURMURA delivered a low-rolling stepper featuring haunting synth work—something we’d love to hear more of, especially as the subgenre has gradually diminished in visibility.

Prepare yourself: the relentless energy across the three tracks is pushed to the limit, with a swarm of basses and intergalactic synths. It's a cosmic storm of powerful bass and aggressive drums. We’re excited to hear more from this duo!

A personal favorite from the EP, Leave That Race, launches into mayhem, obliterating the ground level with its blistering sound design and thunderous bass. As the track lifts off, it opens with an ethereal atmosphere before unleashing laser-like synths and punishing drums, tearing through everything in its path. A sonic assault packed with boundary-pushing elements.

The full release will be available over at their Bandcamp.

Mission Statement

This project is crafted to be open and collaborative. Through this, we seek to explore core themes within a structured framework:

  • Symbiosis: Can artists and communities have better relations?
  • Meaning: What matters in pursuing and preserving artistic influences?
  • Intersectivity: Are there chartable commonalities within art and technology?

By asking questions, we hope to observe something new; and with that, offer our own perspective.
