Premiere: This Is Stellar with Fryware

PremieresWritten by Colin Benson on

Stellar Audio returns with their biggest project to date, This Is Stellar—an auditory constellation that blurs the lines of time, space, and genre. This various-artists compilation encapsulates everything they stand for, bridging an intricate blend of sonic past, pulsating present, and unknown future. It spins through dimensions in a cosmic rendezvous where fresh talent mingles with well-established figures in the Stellar community, each bringing unique contributions to the galaxy. As a whole, it feels like the label has taken a deep breath and a leap into new genres and territories of undefined styles, yet remains tethered to the foundational frequencies of the imprint. The full multiverse unfolds on November 1st.

Enter Fryware, a name already etched into the Stellar ethos. The Dutch producer returns to the label following his wondrous collab, "HERESY," with Eluun on her debut EP with DIVIDID. Since our last encounter with Jeffrey, he has truly elevated his craft while experimenting with a vast array of styles—releasing on labels like In The Lab Recordings, NCS, and Symbiotik Records, as well as a special halftime weapon, the self-released "Absolution," and even a lush melodic bootleg of Eliminate's "Poison Oak."

Today we serve up one of our favorites from the compilation, "Onigiri." It’s not your typical Japanese rice snack, though it’s every bit as packed with flavor. A feast of contrasting elements: intricate, unorthodox drum patterns that feel as unpredictable as a blind chef in the kitchen, yet maintain a rhythmic backbone that keeps you wanting more. The shimmering, snappy percussion, seasoned with ethereal atmospheres, breathes and floats while classic drum breaks and samples pepper the track, nodding respectfully to genre roots before veering into uncharted territory. All the while, Fryware flexes his synth melodies, which twinkle alongside thickening bass riffs.

A tasty morsel to satisfy the cravings of any Drum & Bass connoisseur!

Mission Statement

This project is crafted to be open and collaborative. Through this, we seek to explore core themes within a structured framework:

  • Symbiosis: Can artists and communities have better relations?
  • Meaning: What matters in pursuing and preserving artistic influences?
  • Intersectivity: Are there chartable commonalities within art and technology?

By asking questions, we hope to observe something new; and with that, offer our own perspective.
