A look at Seppa's 'Meliora' EP
It’s particularly hard to put into words just how special the new release from Seppa is, and whether words alone can do such justice. Though there is one word that elevates the EP beyond sound - ‘Meliora’ - meaning the pursuit of something better in Latin.
Along with a mind-blowingly intricate, multi-genre (if you can define them) EP, Seppa shows us that the future is still bright, despite the unsettled nature of our collective struggle; and through channeling self-expression we can all find solace, even we if may feel disenfranchised with current events. If his sentiments aren’t inspiring enough, then the EP will certainly steer you in the right direction.
The archaically mellow guitar sample of 'Imber' lulls you into a false sense of relaxation, invoking smoked-out Jazz bar imagery wrapped up by the contortion of the hypnotizing loop. As it slowly washes out, gutter bass stabs bash swiftly into the space at 166 bpm footwork rate with Seppa’s signature synth work. The rigid bass phrases accelerate at full throttle, as it progresses with the punchy kicks evolving throughout the track with shapeshifting sound design intensity. A luxuriant yet fleshy beginning to the EP.
The meticulous synths ooze from 'Jaque' as the skulking synth equipped with hulking bass sling along the sepulchral synth spaces wavering between quaint and barely contained belligerence in equal measure, inside and out. Seppa demonstrates a ludicrous amount of swagger with this 130bpm dubstep mammoth.
A bracing switch into 'Apricus' as Seppa’s dazzling sample instrumentation shines through ushering a snug sensation. The unearthly vocal cuts planted by the swaying beats land along the low end. The snarling bass slowly wriggles over the vivid expanse as the vocal cut takes its last exhale.
The termination of the EP begins with 'Vermix'. The cosmic intro pulses before drifting off into the ensuing doom of the stratosphere. Grueling sub-force bellows under the spectrum as Seppa’s projectile riddim neutralizes the space. The scourged drum breaks traverse along with the composition before leisurely coming to a cease.
Seppa once again defies his own eclectic sound and acute songwriting with 'Meliora'. The EP is at full turbulence while delving into complex structures spouted with amorphic sound design. Fortifying his ever so evolving craft in sound.
Seppa is set to take to the states once again on tour, so if you wanna hear these bad boys live make sure you tap up one of his dates. He’s also organizing a 'Meliora' listening party tomorrow at 8:00 pm GMT or 15:00 CST via his Youtube so don’t miss it! The EP dropped yesterday on Seppa's Bandcamp so make sure to cop.
