Based in Reading (UK), Drum and Bass producer and DJ - Kalane aka the label manager for Yamatai Records is a relatively up-and-comer within the minimal spectrum, although he’s been doing bits on various outlets for over four years now, making a name for himself in the underground circuit. His journey began back in 2020 when he self-released a free download EP, titled ‘Shadows’, ever since then he’s gone onto releasing on several established labels to name a few since there are so many - Ekou Recordings, Hyperactivity Music, Trust Audio, Truth Hertz and of course Yamatai Records. It’s safe to say he’s firmly crafted a raw individual sound over the years and will continue to bolster up his artillery with such a deeply rooted passion for music.

Austrian imprint Empathy Audio, founded in May of 2022 by Decaz and Apollo - is a new label on the runway, built with a foundation for deep and soulful sonics of Drum and Bass and Dubstep. Their voyage began with a mix series - ‘Empathy Sessions’, featuring various underground producers and DJs. In due course, they’ve progressed into releases, serving out countless works from hidden gems within the scene, reaching their thirteenth release with Kalanes EP. In recent times, they had their first various-artist compilation, ‘Surveillance 1’, defining their range of sound as a label. And just last month they released an EP from newcomer con:volute, igniting the pace for the rest of the year. Keep on the lookout for them as they continue to develop and grow as a label.

Today, we’re absolutely gassed to premiere the title track to the EP, ‘Northern Monk’, a rich daunting roller asserting the tone for the rest of the release. The track wades through the trenches of gully and glitchy bass textures with a rigorously driven bassline. A triumphant yet menacing voyage through the monk’s temple with unexpected twists and turns.

The release will be available to buy/stream here.
