Jafu comes forth with 'Take The Lead' EP on Sudo Sound
Coming through with his latest release, Canadian dubstep artist Jafu recently dropped his latest EP titled 'Take The Lead' on Sudo Sound.
This year, Jafu has really taken his sound into new territory, and he's quickly become a favourite on our radar. After recently dropping a track with Kodama, and a featured takeover on Subtle, we're excited to delve into his latest 3-tracker release with Sudo Sound which dropped just a few weeks back.
Starting off, the 2 main tracks Take The Lead & Used To from the release push Jafu's signature sound. Funky hip-hop samples, warped basses, and a subtle use of reverb delays give some full-bodied character to the EP. I'm especially fond of his use of drums, by having the surrounding elements work within the spatial dynamics of the track, whilst the main drums power through in a rigid manner–it really gives both tracks some momentum.
For me, the release really comes into its own with the surprising bonus track Flux n' Fux. Jafu pushes a clever use of jazz-like chords which are eventually paired with a crazy drum pattern dominated by a subtle kick drum. I dare say this enters footwork territory, I can't quite put my finger on it, but it really touches up the EP nicely.
Jafu continues to surprise us with his productions, and Sudo Sound are definitely a fitting outlet for this release. We're excited to see what both parties continue to bring to the table for the rest of the year. You can buy the EP here.
