Founded by Jordan ‘Hooligan’ and Marc ‘Lord Genmu’ in 2021, they’ve brought together local producers such as VIN, Prestus, Phantom Nexus, Grant Curtis to create a formidable new label as well as a monthly radio showcase called SunflowerSound Radio.

On this Sunflower Sound V2 they showcase even more international talent and fresh names to the label with contributions from talents like Kage, Nu Partial, RingtoneMurder, Brood and more, providing an exciting assemblage of wide-ranging tracks.

Today's premiere track from the compilation is titled 'Street' from label head Hooligan himself. Presenting a wonky 140 head-nodder marked by theatrical environmental samples and panning vocals, sets the scene for an immersive panoramic space. Amidst the dark obscurity of the underground, swanging seismic metronomes eclipse one’s senses as we wander half-oblivious of our physical surroundings heading down alleyways dimly lit by lamplight.

Sirens blaze pass, as bass weight is felt from directions making one feel as though they’re creeping along an unwelcome part of town looking for a late-night gig. ‘Street’ is slotted early on in the compilation, and certainly sets the tone for with Hooligan’s signature off-kiltered banging yet always playful sound.

The genres represented are wide and diverse, showcasing sonics that range from 4x4 to ambient, halftime, trance, 140, and unexplored islands in between. With the global coast to coast range of this sun-drenched record, there’s sure to be something for everyone to lay back and vibe to as the season changes and summer sunshine is now upon us. Be sure to check out the full release is out on May 29th, and check out the new sounds this sprouting label has to offer.

This project exists to research the topic of creative context within underground & experimental arts. Through the lens of creative-journalism, we explore the life-cycle of artists and their projects, in an otherwise undocumented space.
