dope drop ‘Mild Drugs’ on FUXWITHIT

When you hear the name of an artist or alias, what comes to mind? You might recall their branding? Maybe a few tracks you've heard? Or even a DJ set? The way that an artist puts themselves out into the world paints a picture for their audience, whether it's consistency, artwork, or even personality—anything can make an impact.

When I hear the name 'dope', one thing comes to mind—and that's their unobtainable, raw, underground style.

The Halifax-based duo have done something that is generally quite difficult to do. In such a saturated industry, they carve a collection of styles that on the surface may not seem particularly unique, but as you listen to their catalogue, it's obvious that they are reaching for something beyond what a lot of similar artists do.

dope lean into a gully mixture of hip-hop sampling, low-end warped subs, and some acute drums. Again, this may not seem anything new for underground bass music—but it's in the composture of these elements which really highlights their unique-creative abilities.

Recently dropping on FUXWITHIT, we are pleased to outline a new track from the duo. Their track Mild Drugs explores a clever use of orchestral strings, snappy drums, and a mixture of synth styles throughout.

From a production standpoint, the track embodies some gully characteristics. It's particularly nice to hear an extensive use of low-end stabs, which can typically be hard to fit in the mix due to the muddy nature they impose. All-round props to dope for this heater.

The track is out now for free download, available here.
