A look at Dead End's 'Strapped' EP on Unchained Recordings

The latest offering from Unchained Recordings comes from ‘Dead End’, this 4 track EP focuses on the heavy bass orientation of Halftime. The release has great experimentation and sound design, while still being perfect for dancefloor insertion.

Starting out with the title track, Strapped has a hypnotic rhythm and lead. This is built upon with the use of vocal cuts and subtle switches, the swing has a sluggish feel to it making one rock backwards and forward as if descending into madness.

Next up, Spike is my favourite of the release, the noises used make for a very interesting beat. I really enjoy the little plucky bass stabs and movements. The 2nd phrase of this track moves into something more melodic with an arp like synth pulling you deeper into the track.

Did I Stutter... angry and heavy, the bass is gruesome and the movement of it is interesting. You can hear the experimentation of sound used in this one, the implementation of them is used to great effect.

Walking, named perfectly as the bass has a walking-like style to it, with the 16 hats rolling nicely underneath, this one makes me nod my head the most. It has all the trappings of a steady halftime piece. The offbeat synth that kicks in towards the end of the tune switches the groove up and makes for a really interesting track.

All in all, this a great release, for people who love the sound of Unchained Recordings, this one is definitely one for you.

The 'Strapped' EP is out now, here.
