Premiere: CANDL lands on Momentive with 'Toxic'

Pulling from the deep well of broken beats, CANDL makes his presence felt with 'The Night Culture EP' on LA-based Momentive Recordings. Two minimal workouts that reveal the producer's love of Drum & Bass, filtered through his intense production focus and extensive experience in the world of House and Breaks via the label Lo Freqs he is a co-founder of; fusing the grime of the streets, the dark atmospheres which defines underground raves, and the chaotic excitement always present on the horizon, this is a release that captures the mind as much as it moves the body.

There is often a dichotomy in electronic music between the throbbing four-to-the-floor nature of House and the wild swing present in bass music. While there was a time when they were more exclusive and distant from each other, the past decade has seen a fascinating fusion between the two: 4x4 DnB, DnB producers bootlegging UKG tracks, multi-genre fusions in both sets and tracks and every permutation in between. Thus forming the glue that brought CANDL and Momentive together.

Momentive Recordings itself has its foot heavily in futurism that ignores all boundaries - showcasing the deep and dark side of DnB through events, fomenting an atmosphere of experimentation in its ever-growing catalogue, and giving a voice to artists that operate on the fringe - This made the collaboration with Candl compulsory, especially due to his distinctive hybrid sound that lies at the core of the tracks:

'Toxic' is an especially heady number. It features a throbbing structure that spills into itself with increasing intensity, culminating in a ferociously filthy halftime breakdown

Set for release on January 15, 2024, these two tracks are a riot to explore time and time again.

This project exists to research the topic of creative context within underground & experimental arts. Through the lens of creative-journalism, we explore the life-cycle of artists and their projects, in an otherwise undocumented space.
