An analysis of Yuhri's latest two-tracker
Over the years Yuhri has become a pillar of the left field bass music community, collaborating with the likes of Culprate, Vellum & remixing for Frequent and Hudson Lee; all whilst helping to nurture one of the world's most exceptional labels in terms of explorative, bass-driven electronic music - VALE. After a short-lived hiatus, Yuhri has returned true to form with his encapsulating two-track EP 'Dust Devil / Number Crunching’; a side splitting release conveying an album's worth of craftsmanship through a condensed and captivating experience.
“This release symbolizes some aspects of my personal life as well as stuff I've been having on my mind for a long time. For one, it's about me breaking free from self-doubt and perfectionism”/ Yuhri
Yuhri accelerates aggression in a cyclone of symphonic cacophonies with 'Dust Devil', making this a remarkable composition that reflects Yuhri’s devotion to intricate sonic exploration. It truly shows how much time and conscious energy has gone into relentlessly implementing each element, meticulously crafted in a convergence of all the sounds that has inspired his journey to date. The melodic contrast in an otherwise furious context is incredible, capturing a balance of warm orchestral scores and cut-throat sonic ingenuity.
'Number Crunching' serves as a perfect counterpoint and displays Yuhri’s ability to engage a natural flow in order to execute solid groove focused concepts. Enveloped with masterful bass engineering, this piece exceeds the expectations of its title by delivering the crunchiest of sound design that hearkens to his earlier 'Chimera' era - where collaborations with Culprate and Vellum encouraged his distinct and powerful head-bangers.
> Final notes
For a humble two track release, Yuhri provides so much to sink your teeth into, demonstrating that the statement 'quality over quantity' could not be more true. We at Rendah Mag welcome Yuhri back with open arms following his hiatus and look forward to being blessed with more music in the future - though this release will keep our thirst quenched for many years to come;
