A look at ALEPH's "SEPULCHRE" LP
It has been 1-month since VISION has released the self-defining LP by ALEPH, SEPULCHRE. A groundbreaking concoction of wide-ranging styles of electronic music, with a hint of the artist’s progressive self-discovery immersed into each track. SEPULCHRE is not confined to a singular musical narrative, on the contrary it ventures to explore seemingly incompatible elements of electronic sound, binding them together in a harmonious musical sensation.
ALEPH opens up the LP with a euphoric wave of serenity built into his opening track ‘MOTION IN DESCENT’’. I see this track encapsulating this urgent sense of vitality and imminent unpredictability running throughout the release.
SEPULCHRE contradicts its own definition, as each track resembles a breathing and living synthesis of tension-building chords, simultaneously touching on the pinnacle of euphoric and sorrowful experience. ‘UNFOLDING LIGHT’ sweeps over with the intensity and calamitous turmoil, blending the brutality of a futuristic sound with abrupt, delicate minimalism.
The LP contains 11 tracks, each track expressing its own version of ALEPH’s progressive transformation as an artist of a unique and unparalleled sound. The groundbreaking composition of this LP allows for a personalized experience and cognition of each sound.
The side-chaining of the high frequencies makes for a wide range of dynamics in the track. The side-chaining provides a faultless ducking effect, drawing you in from the high frequencies and creating a track which covers the whole spectrum of electronic sound.
‘IF U WANT” combines upbeat dynamism with a prolonged euphoric nostalgia, reminding one of their strong attachment to something in the past, which has now been transitioned into its unreachable future form. ALEPH continuously juggles with this idea of unfamiliar familiarity, where a recognition of sound seems simultaneously close and distant.
In his earlier release EGO DEATH, ALEPH began exploring his craving for an undiscovered futuristic territory. Broken instrumentals intertwining with exuberant foundations of conventional dance music are refined in his new release, where ALEPH seems to have located his individualism in the electronic sphere.
Overall, we are met with an intricate technical and all-embracing production - the delicacy of creative introspection coupled with a polished completion of a personal style and technique, manifests an ultimate vision of how ALEPH imagines the future of sound.
